Reporting a bug

The more of this you include, the faster we can fix it:

  1. What happened, and what you expected to happen instead.
  2. Steps to reproduce it: what you were doing just before, which cards you stacked, and whether it happens every time.
  3. Your system: operating system and version, graphics card model and driver version.
  4. Your log file, main.log, and if the problem is in a run, your save file, game-save.json. A save lets us load your exact situation.
  5. A screenshot if something looks wrong. On Steam, F12 takes one.

Where your files are

Both files live in the same folder:

%APPDATA%\SpectralCrow\Island\
Linux
~/.local/share/SpectralCrow/Island/

On Windows, paste %APPDATA%\SpectralCrow\Island into the File Explorer address bar to jump straight there. These files contain only game data, never anything personal.

Common questions

The game won’t start or shows a black screen.

Grim Island renders with Vulkan, so it needs a graphics card and driver that support it. Update your graphics driver from NVIDIA, AMD or Intel first; that fixes most start-up problems. On a laptop with two graphics chips, make sure the game runs on the dedicated one. If it still fails, send us your main.log.

Do I need to be online to play?

No. Grim Island is single-player and has no online features, so it plays fine offline once Steam has installed it.

Can I take my time?

Yes. The game is turn-based: time on the island only moves when you act, so you can stop and think as long as you like.

How do I back up or move my save?

Copy game-save.json from the folder above. To restore it, close the game and put the file back in the same place.

I keep dying. Any tips?

Keep a close eye on water, food and energy, and don’t eat raw fish. Stack cards on each other to see what they can do: every stack shows the actions it allows, or the tool you’re missing. Structures keep working while you do other things, so an early camp pays for itself.

When does the game come out?

Grim Island is coming to Steam. Wishlist it and Steam will tell you the moment it launches.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases and refunds are handled by Steam. Request one through Steam Support under Steam’s refund policy.

How do I report a problem with my Steam account or payment?

We can’t see or change Steam accounts or payments. Contact Steam Support for those.
